Repeatable spreadsheet tasks

Merge, compare, clean, and check your spreadsheets.

Seven focused tasks for Excel and CSV files: merge, update, reconcile, compare, clean, check, and fill templates. Every result comes with a summary and a preview, and you download it as a CSV.

  • Excel or CSV files
  • Up to 10 MB per file
  • No account needed
Illustration with sample values: two files with the same columns in a different order become one table. Repeated rows and blank cells are kept.
Why Sheetwise

Less repetitive work.Clearer checks on every result.

Choose a task, add your Excel or CSV files, and review the result before you rely on it. Matching settings can be saved in this browser and reused for files with the same columns.

01  ·  Start with your files

Work from the files you already have.

Choose one of seven focused tasks and add Excel or CSV files. They are read in your browser, and your original files are never changed.

Choose a task

Each task does one job and explains the CSV it creates. Pick one, add your files, and run it.

Task workspace

Merge files

Choose 2 or more Excel or CSV files. Columns with the same name are combined; capitalization and extra spaces are ignored.

Runs in your browser

Add your files

Choose Excel or CSV files, or load an example with made-up data first.

Try an example with made-up data

Load examples into this page without saving or replacing files on your computer.

Merge keeps repeated rows: the example has 4 rows and 3 columns. Clean removes one duplicate and one blank row. Check reports 5 rows: one blank row, one row with an empty cell, and one duplicate. Compare uses made-up older and newer reports with an added row, a removed row, a changed value, and a duplicate-key exception. Update uses a made-up current report and update file with a filled blank, a conflict, an added row, and records that cannot be matched. Reconcile uses made-up ledger and payments exports with a value within tolerance, a text difference, one-sided records, and repeated, blank, and unclear keys. Fill uses a fixed example template and source data, with one filled cell and an unmatched source record.

Before you start: Each file can be up to 10 MB (20 MB in total). Only the first sheet in an Excel file is used. Clear selection removes your chosen files and any results from this page; it does not delete files you have already downloaded. More details are under “Good to know”.

Set up and run

Match columns and choose keys where the task asks, then run it. Clean and Check need no setup.

Review and download

Your summary and preview appear here after you run a task.

How it works

From files to a reviewed CSV in four steps.

The same four steps apply to every task. Clean and Check skip the setup step.

  1. Choose a task

Merge files, update reports, reconcile data, compare reports, clean data, check data quality, and fill templates. Each task card says what it needs and what you get.

Not sure yet? Load an example with made-up data first.

  2. Add your files

Choose Excel or CSV files, up to 10 MB each and 20 MB in total. Only the first sheet in an Excel file is used.

Files are read in your browser. Your originals are never changed.

  3. Set up and run

Merge, update, reconcile, compare, and fill templates ask you to match columns and choose keys. Clean and Check run straight away.

Matching settings can be saved in this browser and reused for files with the same columns.

  4. Review and download

A summary and a preview appear on the page. Merge, clean, and check start their CSV download when you run them. Update, reconcile, compare, and fill templates wait for you to download; unresolved exceptions need your acknowledgement first.

Records that cannot be matched safely are listed for review, not guessed.

Good to know

What Sheetwise does today, and where it stops.

Runs in your browser

The page reads and processes the files you choose in your browser. This prototype has no feature that uploads files to a server of its own. This describes the current code and is not an independent network or security audit.

Size limits

Each file can be up to 10 MB, and all selected files together can be up to 20 MB.

Excel files

Only the first sheet in an Excel file is used, and a notice appears when other sheets are ignored. Excel files are read with SheetJS 0.20.3, which is included in the Sheetwise folder and loaded from there, not from another website.

CSV output

Every result is a CSV encoded as UTF-8 with a BOM and CRLF line endings. Text that starts with =, +, - or @ gets a leading apostrophe on export; plain negative numbers are left as they are.

How this differs from a chat assistant

A chat assistant such as ChatGPT is flexible: you can describe almost any spreadsheet job in words, and it can help you plan or explain one. Sheetwise is narrower and more predictable.

Sheetwise does not replace a chat assistant. Use one to think through a spreadsheet job, and use Sheetwise when you want to run that job the same way each time.

  • The same steps every time. Each task follows fixed rules, so the same files and settings produce the same CSV. Sheetwise does not use AI to interpret your data.
  • Settings you can reuse. Matching settings for merge, update, reconcile, compare, and fill templates can be saved in this browser and applied to files with the same columns.
  • Results you can check. Every result has a summary and a preview, and records that cannot be matched safely are listed instead of being paired.
